We are optimistic about release of abducted ex-Defence Spokesman, wife – Katsina Govt

The Katsina State Government has expressed optimism that retired Major General Rabe Abubakar and his wife, who were recently abducted, may regain their freedom soon as security operations intensify to secure their release and that of other captives.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Bala Salisu Zango, the government said coordinated efforts involving security agencies have reached an advanced stage.

According to the statement, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda directed relevant security agencies to prioritize the safe rescue of the retired military officer, his wife and other victims following their abduction along the Matazu axis of the state.

The government said security agencies are pursuing multiple strategies aimed at securing the victims’ safe return while maintaining pressure on criminal groups operating in the area.

It added that preliminary findings from ongoing investigations suggest the abduction may have been a targeted operation, a development that is helping to shape the response of security operatives.

“The state is working around the clock, utilizing both technology and ground intelligence. Our primary goal remains the safe return of the General, his wife and others in similar situations,” the statement said.

The government noted that it is collaborating closely with the Nigerian Army, the Police and other security and intelligence agencies to achieve a breakthrough without compromising the safety of the victims.

It also disclosed that security personnel have maintained surveillance and operational activities in the affected area as part of efforts to track down those responsible and facilitate the victims’ release.

Reaffirming its commitment to tackling insecurity, the state government said it remains determined to ensure that those behind criminal activities are brought to justice while protecting lives and property across the state.

The government appealed to members of the public to provide useful information that could assist security agencies and urged the family of the retired general and other affected families to remain calm as rescue efforts continue.

It expressed confidence that ongoing operations would produce positive results and promised to provide further updates as developments unfold.
