Video: ‘God will choose’ – Pastor Kumuyi speaks on handing over church to sons
The General Superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor W.F. Kumuyi, has dismissed speculation that he may eventually hand over the leadership of the church to any of his biological children, insisting that the ministry belongs to Jesus Christ and not to any individual or family.
Kumuyi addressed the issue during a church service after rumours surfaced suggesting that one of his sons could succeed him as leader of the ministry.
According to the cleric, some people had questioned whether he would eventually locate one of his children and transfer the leadership of the church to them.
Responding to the speculation, Kumuyi stressed that the church is not a personal possession that can be inherited by family members.
“My friend, it is not always the will of God that you pass it to your son. And there are sons that do not understand that; that leadership in the kingdom is not a family affair.
He said, “Many people were speculating, is he going to hand over the church unto his son? Won’t he search for his first son, second son, where are they? Where do they live? Is he not going to hand over the church? Well God will choose, and God will tell who is to have the kingdom.”
Kumuyi maintained that the church belongs solely to Jesus Christ and should be led according to God’s direction rather than family succession.
The Deeper Life founder further cited examples from the Bible, noting that key figures of the early church did not transfer leadership to their children.
“Peter did not hand over the church to his son. Paul did not have any son or wife, but Paul did not hand over the church to his son. And John did not hand over the church to his son,” he said.
