S-West group condemns bandits’ attack in Oyo, tasks govt on security

The South-West Security Stakeholders Group, SSSG, on Thursday condemned Monday’s attack by suspected bandits on an Operation Burst base in a forest reserve along the Igbeti-Igboho axis in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The attack, which occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., reportedly saw the attackers open fire on security personnel and set a patrol van ablaze, causing damage to the facility.
Reacting to the incident, the SSSG, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Ireti Adewole, expressed concern over what it described as escalating insecurity in the region.
The group called on the Oyo State Government and relevant security agencies to intensify collaborative efforts to protect communities across the state.
Adewole stressed the need for greater synergy among security agencies and community members to tackle banditry and other criminal activities.
He urged the government to deploy additional resources and adopt comprehensive strategies to strengthen security infrastructure and intelligence gathering in vulnerable areas.
“The Southwest Security Stakeholders Group condemns in the strongest terms the recent attack on the Operation Burst base in Oorelope Local Government Area.
“Such acts of violence undermine the peace and development of our communities. We call on the Oyo State Government and all security agencies to work hand in hand to improve security measures and ensure the safety of residents.
“Strengthening community policing initiatives and investing in modern surveillance technology could also play pivotal roles in curbing such attacks,” he said.
The group also urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security operatives by providing timely information that could help prevent future attacks.
Adewole emphasised the importance of community engagement as a critical component of efforts to address insecurity in the region.
