IGP DISU: The man, the frigatebird

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is steadily redefining the Nigeria Police Force through visionary leadership, modern technology, strategic partnerships and renewed attention to the welfare of police officers. In six months in office, his administration has demonstrated a clear determination to build a more responsive, technology driven and people centred police institution capable of giving Nigerians greater confidence and security.
Like the frigatebird, renowned for its ability to soar high, travel great distances and maintain exceptional awareness of its surroundings, IGP Disu has brought a new sense of vision, courage and direction to the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force. His administration is increasingly focused on anticipating security challenges, embracing innovation and equipping police personnel with the modern tools required to confront the realities of 21st century policing.
One of the clearest signs of this new direction is the official launch of the Nigeria Police Force Vigilant App. The digital platform represents a significant step towards strengthening communication between the police and members of the public. By harnessing modern technology, the Force is creating new opportunities for citizens to interact with the police, provide useful information and contribute to the collective responsibility of building safer communities.
The MTN Closed User Group (CUG) network is another important initiative that underscores the IGP’s commitment to improving communication within the Force. The dedicated communication platform is designed to promote seamless, secure and efficient communication among police personnel and strengthen coordination. In modern policing, where timely information can make the difference between preventing a crime and responding after it has occurred, effective communication is indispensable.
Together, these initiatives demonstrate that IGP Disu understands that the Nigeria Police Force cannot rely solely on traditional policing methods in an era where criminals increasingly exploit technology. Through innovative digital solutions and strategic partnerships, his administration is strengthening operational effectiveness, improving internal coordination and working towards more responsive, efficient and people centred security services for Nigerians.
