Gunmen abduct 60 year-Old ondo community head, shoot wife
–Community in shock as police launch manhunt

Suspected gunmen have abducted 60-year-old Adeniyi Adelana, community head of Ode Oriya Village in Owo council area of Ondo State and shot his wife.
A police source said six armed men stormed the residence around 8:05pm Saturday.
The assailants invaded under cover of darkness and whisked the victim away through a nearby bush path to an unknown destination.
Contacted, the state Police Command spokesperson DSP Jimoh Abayomi said the Divisional Police Officer, B Division Owo, mobilized a combined team of police and other security personnel immediately after receiving the distress report.
“The area was swiftly secured and a preliminary assessment of the crime scene conducted as part of ongoing investigative efforts,” Abayomi said.
The victim’s wife sustained a gunshot injury to her right hand.
She was rescued and taken to a nearby medical facility where she is responding positively to treatment.
Abayomi said a comprehensive search-and-rescue operation was activated.
“Security operatives are combing nearby forests, bush paths and suspected escape routes to track the kidnappers and secure Adelana’s release.
“Tactical deployments have also been strengthened across the area and adjoining communities to enhance operational effectiveness,” he added.
The Commissioner of Police has directed all tactical units, intelligence assets and operational teams to intensify efforts toward the swift rescue of the victim and arrest of the perpetrators.
“The Command remains resolute in ensuring the victim is reunited safely with his family while all those involved face the full weight of the law,” Abayomi said.
He urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and report suspicious movements to the nearest police station or emergency channels.
Abayomi reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and said efforts are being intensified to combat kidnapping and violent crimes in Ondo State.
Meanwhile,the state government has vowed to secure the release of the kidnapped community head.
The information and Orientation commissioner ldowu Ajanaku, said that
” all necessary security and intelligence mechanisms have been activated to ensure the safe rescue of Mr. Adeniyi Adelana, aged 60, the Baale of Ode Oriya Village, who was kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Owo Local Government Area on Saturday.
Ajanaku said that “The government wishes to reassure the family of the victim and the general public that Police and other security agencies, in collaboration with the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps), have swung into action and are currently conducting coordinated search and rescue operations across strategic locations within and around the area of the incident.
”The swift response to the unfortunate development underscores the effectiveness of the state’s sustained investment in strengthening its security architecture. Through the provision of modern intelligence-gathering equipment, including surveillance drones and other technological assets, the Ondo State Government has continued to enhance the operational capabilities of security agencies in combating criminal activities across the state.
According to him “The preliminary intelligence reports indicate that security operatives are making significant progress in tracking the perpetrators.
” Government remains confident that ongoing operations will yield the desired outcome and lead to the safe rescue of the victim while ensuring that those responsible for the criminal act are brought to justice.
”The administration of Governor Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa remains unwavering in its commitment to protecting lives and property. Security agencies have been directed to deploy every available resource towards the successful resolution of the incident, while efforts to strengthen intelligence-led policing and community-based security measures continue across the state.
The commissioner urged “residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding. Government assures all citizens that it will continue to take decisive actions to safeguard communities and sustain peace and security throughout Ondo State.
