$800M Megadeal: Dangote and Sinoma Ink Historic Pact to Double Itori Cement Plant Output
Breaking: Massive Expansion Set to Transform Nigeria into Africa’s Premier Cement Export Hub
The Nigerian industrial sector just secured a monumental victory. Dangote Industries Limited and Sinoma International Engineering Co., Ltd. have officially signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) valued at over $800 million.
The goal? A massive expansion of the Dangote Cement Plant in Itori, Ogun State, designed to skyrocket its production capacity from 6 million to a staggering 12 million metric tons per annum (MTA).
Signed by the President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, and the Chairman of Sinoma, Lin Zhong, this high-stakes agreement underscores a long-standing strategic partnership aimed at aggressive industrial development across the African continent.
Vision 2030: Cementing Nigeria’s Economic Future
This $800 million injection is not just about local construction; it is a calculated move to dominate regional trade. Under the new agreement, the expanded Itori facility will pivot into a major production and export hub.
During the signing ceremony, Aliko Dangote laid out the core drivers behind this historic expansion:
- Export Dominance: The boosted capacity will allow Dangote Cement to aggressively serve key export markets across needy African countries, generating vital foreign exchange earnings.
- Infrastructure Shift: The expansion directly supports the country’s new drive toward utilizing concrete for robust road construction.
- Vision 2030: The deal keeps the company squarely on track to achieve its ambitious Vision 2030 target of producing 90 to 100 MTA.
- Job Creation: The scale of this expansion promises to generate substantial employment opportunities and stimulate local economic growth.
Dangote also took a moment to publicly thank President Bola Tinubu, crediting the administration for providing the enabling environment necessary for high-level businesses to thrive.
“This $800 million investment represents another bold step in our commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s industrial base,” Dangote stated. “This project reflects our unwavering confidence in the Nigerian economy and our determination to contribute meaningfully to economic growth, job creation, and regional trade across Africa.”
Sinoma Deploys Cutting-Edge Tech
The Chinese engineering powerhouse, Sinoma, is equally committed to seeing the Itori plant reach its full potential. Chairman Lin Zhong described the MOU as a “significant milestone,” reinforcing that Sinoma will deploy its world-class engineering expertise and advanced technology to execute the project to the highest global standards.
“Over the years, our partnership has produced some of the most modern and efficient cement manufacturing facilities in Africa,” Zhong noted. “The expansion of the Itori plant will not only increase production capacity but also enhance Nigeria’s position as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for the African continent.”
As construction gears up in Ogun State, the eyes of the global manufacturing sector remain locked on Nigeria. With $800 million on the table, Dangote and Sinoma are laying the foundation for a deeply transformed African industrial landscape.
