AY apologises after payment dispute disrupts UK comedy show

Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has apologised to fans disappointed that the Cardiff leg of his “AY Live: Single and Not Searching” UK tour failed to go ahead as expected.

The event, scheduled for Sunday, October 25, 2026, at Valegate Retail Park in Cardiff, Wales, reportedly saw hours of delays and confusion, leaving many ticket holders unable to see any of the advertised performers.

AY, in a statement shared on Monday on Instagram, said he and the other comedians on the bill had travelled to Cardiff and arrived at the venue but could not perform because of unresolved payment commitments with the organisers.

“My fellow comedians and I travelled to Cardiff to perform and eventually entered the venue. Unfortunately, unresolved payment commitments delayed our appearance, and by the time we arrived at the hall, most of the audience had left,” he said.

The comedian expressed regret over the experience, acknowledging that fans who paid to attend the show deserved better treatment.

“You deserved a properly organised show and timely information. You should never have been caught in the middle of a payment dispute,” AY stated.

He also appealed to fans to hear his account of the incident before reaching conclusions about what transpired, saying he had explained the circumstances in a video.

Addressing the issue of compensation, AY called on the organisers and the UK tour management to provide a clear resolution for affected ticket holders, including information on refunds.

“I am calling on the organisers and our UK tour management to provide a clear resolution for ticket holders, including refund information,” he said, adding that verified updates would be communicated through his official channels.

The incident had triggered complaints from attendees on social media, with reports of prolonged waiting, heated exchanges and police presence at the venue.

As of the time of filing this report, the organisers had yet to publicly explain the circumstances surrounding the disruption or announce refund arrangements.
