Egypt captain Mohamed Salah etched his name into FIFA World Cup history on Monday after moving into the list of African players with the highest combined total of goals and assists at the tournament.
Salah reached the milestone after scoring once and providing an assist as Egypt recovered from an early setback to defeat New Zealand 3-1.
According to OptaJoe, the former Liverpool forward now boasts three goals and two assists at the World Cup, placing him alongside Tunisia’s Wahbi Khazri on five goal contributions.
Only former Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan and Cameroon icon Roger Milla have recorded more combined goals and assists among African players in World Cup history.
Gyan tops the chart with six goals and three assists, while Milla registered five goals and one assist.

Reacting after Egypt’s victory over New Zealand, Salah expressed delight with the achievement and the team’s performance.
“It’s incredible. It’s a great achievement for all the players, for the staff. We have to enjoy today, enjoy tomorrow, then focus on the next game,” Salah said.
