We’re not spoilt despite being Dangote’s children – Halima Dangote
A resurfaced video of Nigerian billionaire Aliko Dangote’s three daughters has triggered reactions online after Halima Dangote revealed that she and her sisters did not grow up “spoilt” despite their privileged background.
The video, which resurfaced on X on Saturday, was taken from Bloomberg’s Next Africa special featuring Halima, Mariya and Fatima Dangote.
The interview, filmed at the Dangote family’s Lagos residence, was published by Bloomberg in August 2026.
Halima, Fatima and Mariya occupy senior positions within the Dangote Group as the conglomerate continues to develop its succession structure.
Speaking about how she and her sisters handled their privileged upbringing, Halima said they had intentionally maintained a low profile and preferred to have their professional achievements define them.
“We are not spoilt,” she said.
Elaborating, Halima said the sisters avoided drawing attention to their family background when interacting with people from similar circles.
“Any time we meet with our co-peers — like the kids of our dad’s friends, or people that we’re supposed to — we don’t… I mean, everyone has his own job. We are more… we’re quiet in the sense that we don’t say who we are.
“It’s, I don’t know if it’s fortunate or unfortunate, now people recognise us. But it was easier when we were not recognised; you know, our results speak for themselves.”
She said the three sisters also differed from people who were comfortable displaying their lifestyles and possessions on social media.
“I mean, some people are really comfortable with social media, with being known, with being expressive. I don’t think we are — all three of us are not expressive of what we have or what we own or what we’re doing,” she said.
Halima said she and her sisters preferred their performance at work to serve as the measure of their success.
“I think, like Fatima and Mariya said, the results are just the ones speaking for themselves: the sale of this business, the profit of this, the EBITDA, our growth, growing to $100 billion. We are all in those key positions and, I mean, numbers don’t lie,” she added.
Dangote has previously said having a male heir was not a priority for him, arguing that his three daughters were capable of taking over the family business.
“Sometimes when God doesn’t give you something, don’t push. I don’t think a son would have done something better than these three daughters that I have. That one, I think, you know, it’s not my priority,” he said.
