Two doctors, man arrested over alleged organ harvesting in Nasarawa

Two medical doctors and another man have been arrested in Nasarawa State over alleged involvement in organ harvesting and human trafficking.
Operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) apprehended the suspects during a sting operation in Auta Balefi, Karu Local Government Area of the state, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The suspects were identified as 23-year-old Emmanuel Ode, a resident of Auta Balefi; Dr Benjamin Oyime, 48, a nephrologist and consultant at Wellington Hospital; and Dr Daniel Otokpa, also a nephrologist and reportedly the hospital’s second-in-command.
Their arrest followed a complaint reportedly filed by a 47-year-old woman, Mrs Julian Abot.
According to preliminary findings by investigators, Ode allegedly confessed to facilitating the removal of a kidney from a 22-year-old man identified as Samuel Ezekiel.
Investigators alleged that on April 24, 2026, Ode took Ezekiel to Wellington Hospital in the Life Camp area of Abuja for a kidney removal procedure after allegedly agreeing to pay him N1.7 million.
The investigation further revealed that the victim was allegedly made to sign consent documents using another name, Isa Abubakar.
The three suspects remain in custody as investigations continue into the alleged organ harvesting and human trafficking activities.
Authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the kidney removal, the roles allegedly played by each of the suspects, and whether other individuals were involved in the operation.
