Tinubu’s reforms laying foundation for prosperous Nigeria, says Information Minister
By Joseph Erunke, Abuja
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, yesterday declared that the far-reaching economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu were steadily repositioning Nigeria for long-term prosperity.
He insisted that the difficult decisions taken by the administration were already yielding positive results in fiscal stability, investor confidence and national development.
The Minister made the remarks in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Forum of Former Presiding Officers of State Houses of Assembly,FOPSHA, led by its Chairman, Senator Wasiu Esinlokun, during a courtesy visit to the ministry’s headquarters.
Idris said though the reforms initially came with significant challenges, they were necessary steps that previous administrations had been unwilling to undertake, stressing that the Tinubu administration had laid a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth and national transformation.
According to him, President Tinubu’s bold policy decisions have begun to reshape Nigeria’s economic landscape, creating greater fiscal stability and improving the country’s attractiveness to local and foreign investors.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took courageous decisions that previous administrations avoided for decades.
‘’Today, Nigeria is witnessing greater fiscal stability, improved investor confidence, enhanced infrastructure development and expanding opportunities for citizens. The foundation has been laid for a more prosperous future,” the minister stated.
Highlighting key milestones recorded within the administration’s first three years, Idris pointed to the removal of fuel subsidy, reforms in the foreign exchange market, improved revenue generation for both the federal and state governments, and the expansion of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, which, he said, had widened access to higher education for Nigerian students.
He also cited the steady growth in Nigeria’s external reserves, improved Gross Domestic Product ,GDP performance and the execution of landmark infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry super highway, as evidence of the administration’s commitment to transforming the country’s economic fortunes.
The minister further noted that the federal government had intensified efforts to combat insecurity, creating a more conducive environment for investment, business growth and socio-economic development.
He urged members of FOPSHA to leverage their political experience, leadership credentials and grassroots influence to enlighten Nigerians on the objectives and long-term gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda, saying sustained public engagement was critical to ensuring greater understanding and support for the reforms.
Idris also commended the Forum for its contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development and nation-building over the years.
As part of the federal government’s commitment to public information, the minister assured the delegation that government-owned media organisations, including the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA; the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN; and the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN; would provide adequate coverage for the Forum’s forthcoming National Executive Council and Board of Trustees meeting.
He said the support aligned with the ministry’s responsibility of ensuring Nigerians were properly informed about issues of national importance.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of FOPSHA, Senator Esinlokun, said the delegation visited the ministry to brief the minister on the Forum’s activities and seek media support for its forthcoming meeting.
According to him, the event is expected to attract former speakers of State Houses of Assembly, former governors, former ministers and senators from across the country.
Esinlokun reaffirmed the Forum’s commitment to mobilising grassroots support for the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda through continuous engagement with citizens nationwide.
