Tinubu appoints ex-gov Jang’s son as presidential aide

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Yakubu Jang, son of former Plateau State Governor, Senator Jonah Jang, as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.
The appointment was announced on Saturday by Vice President Kashim Shettima while delivering President Tinubu’s goodwill message at the public presentation of Senator Jang’s autobiography and activities marking his 80th birthday in Jos, Plateau State.
Announcing the appointment, Shettima said, “On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.”
The announcement drew prolonged applause from the audience, with guests rising to congratulate members of the Jang family.
Although Shettima did not disclose the specific portfolio to which Yakubu Jang was assigned, he said the appointment reflected President Tinubu’s confidence in his capacity to contribute to national development through public service.
The high-profile ceremony, held in Jos, attracted former President Goodluck Jonathan, governors, ministers, members of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, senior military officers, diplomats, religious leaders and other dignitaries from across the country.
The appointment came on a day political leaders across party lines gathered to celebrate Senator Jang’s decades of service to Nigeria.
Tributes poured in for the elder statesman, who was honoured for his contributions as a Nigerian Air Force officer, former Military Administrator of Benue State, two-term Governor of Plateau State and former senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District.
The event also featured the public presentation of Jang’s autobiography, “From Soldiering to Politics: Here I Stand,” in which the former governor chronicles his military career, political journey and experiences in public service.
In separate goodwill messages, Vice President Shettima and former President Jonathan described Jang as a patriot, bridge-builder and statesman whose life of faith, sacrifice and service has inspired generations of Nigerians.
The celebration attracted political associates, family members, friends and supporters from within and outside Plateau State, making it one of the largest gatherings of political leaders in the state in recent years.
