Tambuwal, Dasuki seek urgent security intervention in Sokoto

SOKOTO: Former Sokoto State Governor and Senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has called for urgent Federal Government intervention to address the worsening insecurity threatening communities in the state.
Tambuwal made the call when he led a delegation to a meeting with the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd.), in Abuja, where they raised concerns over persistent security challenges, particularly in Kebbe Local Government Area and Kaya community in Tambuwal Local Government Area.
The delegation included the member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency and Deputy Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki.
The delegation told the Defence Minister that the deteriorating security situation had continued to expose residents to fear and uncertainty, with serious consequences for lives, property, agriculture and other economic activities in the affected communities.
Tambuwal, in a statement posted on his X account on Thursday, said the meeting provided an opportunity to convey the concerns of residents directly to the Defence Minister and seek immediate measures to strengthen security operations in the affected areas.
He said residents could no longer afford to live under persistent threats, stressing the need for increased security presence and adequate operational resources to protect communities and restore public confidence.
“We conveyed the concerns of our people and stressed the urgent need for increased security presence, additional operational resources and sustained action to protect lives and property, and enable our people to pursue their livelihoods without fear,” Tambuwal said.
The former governor said Gen. Musa assured the delegation of the Federal Government’s commitment to confronting the security challenges and promised additional resources and operational support to reinforce ongoing operations in the affected communities.
Tambuwal said the assurance was significant given the growing demand from residents for stronger military and other security interventions to prevent further attacks and restore normalcy.
While welcoming the Defence Minister’s commitment, he said residents of the affected communities were looking forward to the swift implementation of the assurances.
“We appreciate these assurances and look forward to their swift translation into action on the ground,” he said.
Tambuwal reaffirmed his commitment to continued engagement with the Federal Government and relevant security authorities over the security situation until concrete measures were implemented to protect vulnerable communities across Sokoto State.
He said the safety and wellbeing of citizens remained paramount, stressing the need for all necessary interventions to halt the cycle of insecurity and enable residents to return to their farms, businesses and other legitimate means of livelihood without fear.
“The security and wellbeing of our people remain paramount. We will continue to engage all relevant authorities and pursue every necessary intervention until lasting peace and security are restored to our communities,” he added.
