Super Eagles defender, Igoh Ogbu ruled out of Portugal friendly
Super Eagles defender Igoh Ogbu has been ruled out of Nigeria’s international friendly against Portugal after suffering an injury during training on Saturday evening.
According to information released by the team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, the centre-back sustained what has been described as a suspected rupture of his left Achilles tendon.
The injury occurred during the team’s training session ahead of the highly anticipated friendly encounter against the European side.
“Super Eagles defender, Igoh Ogbu has been ruled out of the friendly against Portugal after sustaining an injury in training this evening,” a statement from the team’s medical team read.
“Team medics describe the situation as a suspected rupture of his left achilles tendon.”
The development comes as a major setback for both the player and the Super Eagles, with further medical assessments expected to determine the full extent of the injury and the length of time Ogbu could be sidelined.
Ogbu has been part of Nigeria’s squad preparations and was expected to feature in the friendly against Portugal before the unfortunate injury.
The Super Eagles will now have to make do without the defender as they continue their preparations for upcoming international assignments.
