The Southern Kaduna Trailblazing Women Association (SOKATWA) has announced plans to host an Interactive Summit with candidates contesting the 2027 general elections as part of activities marking its One-Year Anniversary.
In a statement signed by the Secretary, Grace John Zomo, SOKATWA said the summit is aimed at creating a platform for women to engage aspirants directly and make informed electoral choices.
SOKATWA described its first year as one of resilience, mobilization, and growth in advancing women’s political participation across Kaduna State, with emphasis on Southern Kaduna.
According to the association, key achievements include holding its maiden summit in Kafanchan, establishing structures across Local Government Areas and Wards, and organizing advocacy engagements. SOKATWA also noted the emergence of more women as candidates for various elective positions ahead of 2027.
“Women can no longer be taken for granted as mere vote banks,” the statement said. “The time has come for leadership to listen to women, for women to make informed choices, and for women to move from participation to influence and from influence to leadership.”
The association disclosed that the summit will provide candidates the opportunity to present their visions, policies, and plans to women voters, and this will be on 10th October, 2026 at the New Choice Hall, Kafanchan.
The statement says all candidates contesting various positions in the 2027 elections have been invited to participate.
“This is an important opportunity for candidates to articulate what they have to offer and demonstrate why they deserve the confidence, trust and support of our women,” SOKATWA stated.
The association said candidates will be assessed based on integrity, competence, capacity, and commitment to women’s advancement and societal development.
SOKATWA reaffirmed its commitment to continue mobilizing women and supporting credible candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The anniversary celebration also acknowledged the contributions of members and stakeholders to the growth of the association.
