Six-year-old dies after teacher allegedly slaps him over homework

A six-year-old boy, Pranay Teja, has died after he allegedly collapsed at a private school in Visakhapatnam, India, following an incident involving a teacher.

The boy’s family alleged that Pranay was slapped and beaten with a stick by a teacher at Little Garden School in the One Town area for failing to complete his homework.

He was later taken to King George Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

According to his father, Pranay had left home that morning in good health and had insisted on going to school.

Hours later, the family was informed that something had happened to him.

The family said they later viewed CCTV footage from the school which, according to them, showed the teacher hitting the boy before he collapsed.

Pranay’s father also said the child had no known health problems and was active the previous night. The family has demanded strict action and alleged that other pupils had also been subjected to physical punishment.

Police have registered a case and launched an investigation, while the boy’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh education authorities have formed a three-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
