Six die, two injured in Kogi road crash

KABBA — Six persons have been killed and two others injured in a road crash along the Kabba-Odo-Ape Road in Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The Kogi Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr Lawal Fagge, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview on Sunday.

Fagge said the crash, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, involved a truck and a commercial vehicle.

He attributed the accident to speeding, adding that residents of Odo-Ape assisted in rescuing the survivors.

“It is unfortunate that six persons lost their lives, while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the tragic incident involving a truck and another vehicle along the Kabba-Odo-Ape Road,” he said.

The sector commander urged motorists to avoid speeding and unnecessary overtaking, and to desist from driving when fatigued.

“We will continue to advise motorists to avoid speeding, unnecessary overtaking and desist from driving while fatigued. This is very important in preventing road crashes,” he said.

Fagge said the bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of the General Hospital, Kabba.
