Shettima, Jonathan, others storm Jos as Jang clocks 80, unveils autobiography

Nigeria’s political landscape converged on Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Saturday as Vice President Kashim Shettima, former President Goodluck Jonathan, top government officials and political leaders gathered to celebrate the 80th birthday of elder statesman and former Plateau State Governor, Jonah David Jang, and witness the unveiling of his autobiography, “From Airman to Politics.”
The high-profile event, which drew dignitaries from across the country, turned into a celebration of Jang’s decades of military, political and public service, with speakers describing him as one of Nigeria’s enduring democratic voices and a symbol of courage, resilience and statesmanship.
Vice President Shettima arrived at the Yakubu Gowon Airport, Jos, where he was received by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other senior federal and state government officials.
Accompanying the Vice President were the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Senator Napoleon Bali; and other prominent political figures.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan also attended the ceremony, joining an array of serving and former public office holders, traditional rulers, diplomats, religious leaders and associates of the former governor.
Other guests present at the occasion included the factional National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Tanimu Turaki, and other party stalwarts.
A major highlight of the event was the public presentation of Jang’s autobiography, “From Airman to Politics,” which was reviewed by media and communications expert Seun Akinbiloye.
Reviewing the memoir, Akinbiloye described it as an honest and compelling account of Jang’s remarkable journey from a young airman in the Nigerian Air Force to becoming military governor, senator and two-term civilian governor of Plateau State.
He said the autobiography offers readers a rare insight into the defining moments of Jang’s military career, his transition into politics, the difficult decisions he faced in public office and his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development.
According to him, the book is more than a personal life story, as it captures important moments in Nigeria’s political history while documenting the sacrifices, convictions and leadership philosophy that shaped Jang’s public service.
