Ronaldo’s ex-coach to become new Portugal manager

Jorge Jesus is set to become the new head coach of the Portugal national football team following the departure of Roberto Martinez.

The 71-year-old Portuguese tactician will take over after Martinez, who led Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, confirmed he would step down when his contract expires.

Jesus arrives after a spell with Al Nassr FC, where he guided the club to the Saudi Pro League title alongside Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development in a post on X.

“Jorge Jesus to become new Portugal head coach, here we go! He’s accepted to take over after Roberto Martínez.

“Jorge Jesus will lead the project for Nations League, Euro 2028 and next World Cup.”
