Professor Alfred Kasunmu, SAN, dies at 90

LAGOS — The Baptist Academy Old Students Association, BAOSA, has announced the death of distinguished alumnus, Professor Alfred Bandele Kasunmu, SAN.

Kasunmu, a member of the Baptist Academy Class of 1953, reportedly died peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, August 9, 2026.

In an obituary announcement signed by the Global President of BAOSA, Olumide Ajomale, the association described the deceased as a distinguished lawyer, scholar, mentor and trustee who made significant contributions to law, education and national development.

The association said Kasunmu was also a cherished patriarch to his family and an embodiment of the values of integrity, discipline and service associated with Baptist Academy.

“In recognition of his outstanding contributions, BAOSA honoured him last year with the BAOSA Order of Excellence Award as one of 170 distinguished old students of Baptist Academy at our 170th Founders Day celebration,” the statement said.

BAOSA described his legacy as one marked by wisdom, mentorship and commitment to excellence, adding that his contributions would continue to inspire generations of former students and Nigerians.

The association said it took solace in the life he lived and the people he impacted through his service to law, education and humanity.

It called on old students of Baptist Academy worldwide to support and pray for the bereaved family.

According to the association, the family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, 2026, between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. It said funeral arrangements would be announced by the family in due course.
