Police nab 27 year old man for allegedly defiling teenage domestic worker in Ondo

Police detectives in Ondo State have arrested a 27-year-old man, Solomon Onaola, for the alleged defilement of a 15-year-old domestic help.

Vanguard gathered in Akure, the state capital, that the incident occurred in Omifon, Odigbo council area of the state.

It was learnt that the guardian of the victim reported at the police station that the 15-year-old girl, who was working as a domestic help in her household, had on several occasions left home without permission.

The case was initially reported at Odigbo Divisional Police Station and was subsequently transferred to the Gender-Based Offences Unit of the Command for discreet investigation, owing to the sensitive nature of the allegation.

A police source said that when the girl was questioned about where she usually went whenever she left home, she allegedly disclosed that the suspect, Solomon Onaola, had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where he allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

Contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said: “Following the report, police operatives commenced investigation and subsequently arrested the suspect.”

Abayomi added that “the victim has also been placed under appropriate care and necessary steps are being taken in accordance with established procedures for cases involving alleged sexual offences against minors.”

According to him, “the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed the Gender-Based Offences Unit to conduct a thorough and professional investigation into the matter, with a view to establishing the facts and ensuring that justice is served.”

He reiterated the command’s commitment to “protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from sexual exploitation, abuse and other forms of violence.”

“Parents, guardians and members of the public are equally urged to remain vigilant, pay close attention to the welfare of children under their care and promptly report any suspected case of abuse to the police,” he said.

Abayomi stated that “the suspect remains in police custody while investigation is ongoing and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.”

*** Suspected armed robber arrested in Owo with firearm

Meanwhile, a 32-year-old suspected armed robber, Ogunmola Oluwasola, has been arrested with a firearm and ammunition in Owo.

The suspect was arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad during a stop-and-search operation along the Owo–Ute road.

During the search, the operatives recovered one cut-to-size pistol and four rounds of live ammunition from his possession.

The suspect was immediately taken into custody, while the recovered firearm and ammunition have been secured as exhibits.

DSP Abayomi said the suspect’s statement had been obtained as detectives intensified efforts to establish the source of the weapon, his intended use of the firearm, and whether he is connected to any robbery, kidnapping or other criminal activities within Owo and its environs.

He reiterated that the Command would continue to sustain intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations and other proactive security measures across the state, particularly along major highways and identified crime-prone locations.

He warned criminals and individuals who unlawfully possess or traffic in firearms that the police and other security agencies would continue to pursue them relentlessly.

“The suspect remains in police custody as investigation continues, with a view to determining his possible links to other criminal activities and bringing all persons found culpable to justice,” he said.

He assured members of the public that “the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property and will continue to deploy intelligence, visibility patrols and community-based policing strategies towards maintaining peace and security across the state.”
