Police deploy school protection squad in Ogun

As public and private schools in Ogun State prepare to resume for the 2026/2027 academic session,
the State Police Command has deployed its School Protection Squad across the state, in a move aimed at strengthening security around schools and protecting pupils, teachers and other members of the school community.
The Command said the deployment was in line with the strategic policing agenda of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasises proactive, preventive and community-oriented policing.
According to the Command, the initiative is also designed to secure school infrastructure, gather actionable intelligence and ensure swift response to emerging security threats.
The Command disclosed this in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
Babaseyi said, “As part of efforts to deepen the initiative, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, recently received an executive delegation of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Safe School Club, led by its State Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Babatunde Lawal, at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta.”
The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration among the police, school authorities, parents, students and community stakeholders towards the early identification, reporting and prevention of security threats within and around schools.
Ojajuni commended the initiative and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to working with the PCRC and other stakeholders to ensure safer learning environments across the state.
He charged members of the School Protection Squad to remain vigilant, maintain close engagement with school communities and respond promptly to credible security information.
The commissioner said the Command remained committed to anticipating threats, preventing incidents and providing swift protective intervention whenever necessary.
He also urged school proprietors, administrators, teachers, parents, students and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around schools.
The Command, in particular, urged residents to embrace the principle: “See something, say something.”
It cautioned members of the public against ignoring suspicious persons, vehicles, movements or activities around schools, stressing that early reporting could help prevent security incidents.

The police assured residents that the School Protection Squad, working in partnership with the PCRC and other stakeholders, remained prepared to protect schools, prevent threats and respond swiftly to emergencies across the state.
