Police arrest two for alleged assault, obstruction of officers in Bauchi

By Christopher Ameh, Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two persons for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing them from carrying out their lawful duties during an enforcement operation in Bauchi metropolis.

The suspects, identified as Friday, whose surname is yet to be ascertained, and Yunana Ali, were arrested on October 3, 2026, at about 9:00 a.m. by operatives of the ‘E’ Division Patrol Team along Yelwa Road, Bauchi.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, the officers were conducting routine enforcement under Operation Velvet when they intercepted a vehicle driven by Friday and requested to see its particulars.

Habib said the suspects allegedly refused to comply with the directive and became hostile, physically assaulting the patrol officers in the process.

He added that one of the suspects allegedly tore the uniform of an Inspector of Police during the confrontation.

The suspects were subsequently subdued and taken to the ‘E’ Division, where an investigation into the incident has commenced.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu,  condemned the alleged assault, describing it as an affront to constituted authority and an attempt to undermine lawful law enforcement efforts.

The Commissioner warned that the command would not tolerate attacks on police officers performing their legitimate duties, while advising members of the public to use lawful channels to address grievances against police actions.

The suspects, according to the command, will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.

The Police urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with officers during routine checks, and avoid actions that could disrupt public peace.
