Police arrest suspect wanted for murder of FRSC officer, daughter

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international law enforcement cooperation as the global community marked the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation on Monday.
The Force said international partnerships had become increasingly important in tackling transnational crimes, tracking fugitives, protecting vulnerable persons and enhancing public safety.
In a statement, the Force headquarters disclosed the arrest of Victor Benjamin Fejemirokum, a suspect wanted in connection with the alleged abduction and murder of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her daughter in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the statement, Fejemirokum was traced to Ghana following efforts by the police to track his movements after a video involving him went viral on social media.
The suspect was subsequently arrested by the Ghana Police Service and repatriated to Nigeria to face investigation and prosecution, the police said.
The Force said the case demonstrated the importance of cross-border cooperation in tracking suspects who attempt to evade arrest by moving between countries.
It noted that criminal networks increasingly operated across national boundaries, with cybercriminals targeting victims in different jurisdictions and organised crime groups moving people, illicit goods and proceeds across borders.
The police said effective law enforcement in the current security environment required timely intelligence sharing, coordinated investigations and operational support among agencies across jurisdictions.
According to the Force, international police cooperation had also contributed to the identification and location of victims, recovery of stolen property, arrest of fugitives, disruption of organised criminal networks and efforts to combat cyber-enabled crimes.
It cited the arrest of Mark Sunny Okoh, a Brazilian national wanted in connection with alleged cocaine trafficking, as another example of international cooperation.
The police said Okoh, who allegedly fled Brazil after jumping bail, was arrested in Okota, Lagos, following international coordination, after which extradition proceedings to Brazil were initiated.
The Force said such cooperation strengthened the ability of law enforcement agencies to track suspects across jurisdictions and prevent the use of international borders to evade justice.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, reaffirmed the NPF’s commitment to deepening cooperation with INTERPOL and other international law enforcement partners.
Disu stressed the importance of information sharing, coordinated investigations, capacity building and cross-border operational support in addressing emerging security threats.
The Force said it would continue to strengthen international partnerships in support of intelligence-led policing, investigations and the protection of communities.
“As the international community marks the United Nations International Day of Police Cooperation, the Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to working with partners at home and abroad to protect lives and property, support victims and build safer communities,” the statement said.
