Police arraign man over alleged N9m fraud in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arraigned a 45-year-old man, Tope Oladipo, before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court over an alleged N9 million fraud involving the purported sale of a vehicle.

Oladipo was brought before the court on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence and fraudulent conversion; all allegations he pleaded not guilty to.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences alongside others still at large on November 11, 2025, within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District.

Adejare alleged that the suspect deceived one Rotimi Babatunde into paying N9 million on the promise of purchasing a 2013 model Hyundai car, which was never delivered.

“The defendant and others now at large allegedly obtained N9 million from the complainant under the false pretence of selling him a 2013 model Hyundai vehicle,” the prosecutor told the court.

He added that the defendant allegedly converted the money to his personal use, noting that the offences contravened relevant provisions of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.

The Defence counsel, Japhet Balogun, urged the court to grant his client bail, assuring the court that the defendant would not jump bail or interfere with the trial.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Kehinde Awosika, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until August 24 for further hearing.
