ABUJA — The Accord Party has called on voters in Osun State to return Governor Ademola Adeleke for a second term in the August 15 governorship election, saying he has earned another mandate to build on his administration’s achievements.
The appeal came on the sidelines of a solidarity visit by the party’s state chairmen and national officers to the National Chairman, Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, at the Accord national secretariat in Abuja, where they also passed a vote of confidence in his leadership.
The party leaders said they were optimistic that Accord would retain Osun, insisting that Adeleke’s performance in office had earned him the right to seek another term.
“His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke has performed well in his first term and deserves a second term to consolidate his achievements and take Osun State to the next level of economic prosperity, unity, security and infrastructural development,” the party leaders said.
They also urged Nigerians to identify with Accord and support its candidates in the 2027 general election, saying the party remained committed to inclusive governance.
During the meeting, the state chairpersons and national officials unanimously expressed their confidence in Mgbudem’s leadership, calling it visionary, purposeful, transformative, and progressive.
According to them, the party has recorded significant growth under his leadership, attracting Governor Adeleke, a senator, members of the House of Representatives and state Houses of Assembly, while also fielding what they described as credible candidates for the 2027 general election.
Responding, Mgbudem thanked the party leaders for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify their trust.
“I am open to advice in building a stronger political platform with national appeal and count on the cooperation of leaders and members of the party,” Mgbudem said.
He urged members to remain united and focus on strengthening the party ahead of the forthcoming elections, while dismissing what he described as attempts by anti-democratic forces to create divisions because of Accord’s growing acceptance.
“Focus on building a viable platform that would deliver all Accord’s candidates in the upcoming elections and disregard the activities of anti-democratic forces that want to sow seeds of discord in the party due to its growing influence and acceptance by Nigerians,” he said.
Mgbudem also urged aggrieved members to take advantage of the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms, assuring them that grievances would be addressed in line with the party’s constitution.
“We will participate in all elections as one family with the support of Nigerians who desire and deserve competent, compassionate leadership and good governance which Accord symbolises,” Mgbudem added.
