Osun Election: There’s no intimidation of any kind, says Adeleke’s wife

The wife of the Osun State Governor, Ngozi Adeleke, has urged eligible voters across the state to come out and exercise their franchise in the ongoing governorship election.

Ngozi made the call on Saturday shortly after casting her ballot, assuring residents that the voting process was peaceful at her polling unit.

She urged those who were yet to vote to leave their homes and proceed to their respective polling units, stressing that participation in the election was a civic responsibility.

“As you can see, there’s no intimidation of any kind,” she said.

The governor’s wife also appealed to Osun residents to participate in the electoral process, saying there was no rancour or fighting at her polling location.

“I’m saying it authoritatively to every Osun indigene that there’s peace, everything is going on peacefully. There’s no rancour, there’s no fight. There’s no intimidation of any kind,” she said.

She added: “Please, wherever you are, as long as you’re an electorate, please leave your house. Go to your polling unit and vote. That’s your civic right.”

Her appeal came as voters turned out across the state to elect the next governor.

Earlier, Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform, had cast his ballot at Ward 02, Polling Unit 009, Abogunde Compound, Ede North Local Government Area.

The election is being conducted across the state’s 30 local government areas, with Adeleke and other candidates seeking the mandate of the electorate.

Concerns over security and alleged intimidation featured prominently in the build-up to the election, with political actors and civil society organisations calling for a peaceful exercise.

Voting commenced on Saturday amid the deployment of security personnel to various parts of the state.
