Olabiyi-Agoro emerges PENGASSAN president

Members of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, have ushered in a new era with the election of Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro as its elected National President.
He took over from Festus Osifo, who is the President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC.
Olabiyi-Agoro emerged unopposed at the association’s first Quadrennial Delegates Conference held in Abuja on Saturday.
A distinguished Petroleum Engineer, labour leader and industrial relations strategist, Olabiyi-Agoro brings more than two decades of experience in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry to the leadership of the influential workers’ association.
He currently serves with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC.
Before joining the regulatory commission, he built an extensive technical and operational career with leading industry players, including Baker Hughes and EA Temile and Sons.
His professional background is complemented by strong academic credentials.
The President holds a Master’s degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom; a Post Graduate Certificate in Computing from London Metropolitan University, United Kingdom; and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Chemical Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso. He is also an alumnus of Government College Ibadan.
Olabiyi-Agoro is no stranger to organised labour and trade union leadership.
He is the current Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Oyo State Council, and has held several key positions within PENGASSAN.
His previous positions include National Financial Secretary of PENGASSAN between 2022 and 2023, National Auditor from 2020 to 2022, and Chairman of the Baker Hughes PENGASSAN Branch from 2016 to 2020.
Over the years, the new PENGASSAN president has participated in several local and international training programmes covering leadership, negotiation and industrial relations.
He is widely regarded within labour circles for his clarity of purpose, straightforward approach and commitment to workers’ welfare.
His emergence is expected to bring his blend of technical expertise, industry experience and trade union leadership to the forefront as PENGASSAN begins a new chapter under his stewardship.
In his acceptance speech, the new president promised among others, to prioritize workers welfare and continue with the legacies set by Osifo.
