Ogun police neutralise two suspected kidnappers, recover two AK-47 rifles, N2m

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have killed two suspected kidnappers during a counter-tactical operation along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road, recovering two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of live ammunition and N2 million allegedly linked to the gang.
The operation also led to the safe rescue of an abducted professional truck driver, who was reportedly kidnapped at about 11:10 p.m. on August 25, 2026, around Ajibawo, Ibese, Ogun State.
According to a statement issued by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, the operation followed actionable intelligence received by the command after the victim’s abduction.
The statement said operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit subsequently stormed the suspected kidnappers’ hideout along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.
“Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while other members of the gang fled the scene with different degrees of gunshot injuries,” the statement said.
A search of the hideout, according to the police, resulted in the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, 25 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, two mobile phones and N2 million, which the command said was “reasonably suspected to be part of the proceeds of criminal activities.”
The police said the bodies of the two suspected kidnappers had been deposited at a morgue for autopsy, while efforts had been intensified to locate and arrest the fleeing members of the gang.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for what he described as its gallantry, professionalism, courage and operational effectiveness.
Ojajuni said the outcome of the operation had reinforced the command’s determination to pursue kidnappers and other violent criminals wherever they operated.
He declared that “Ogun State will remain a hostile terrain for criminal elements,” while assuring residents that the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing, tactical operations and partnerships with communities to protect lives and property.
The police commissioner also urged members of the public to remain security-conscious and provide timely, useful and credible information to security agencies.
He appealed to residents to report persons seeking treatment for gunshot wounds, saying such information could assist ongoing efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and rid the state of criminal elements.
