Ogun APC crisis: I’m not against party, I’m fighting for justice — Abayomi

An aggrieved governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Abayomi Hunye, has said his challenge to the outcome of the party’s governorship primary is not aimed at undermining the party but at seeking justice.
Hunye, who spoke during an interview on Channels Television, said he remained committed to the APC despite the crisis generated by the emergence of Senator Solomon Yayi as the party’s governorship candidate.
“I am not fighting the party. I am fighting for justice. I have suffered for this party, and I have been with the progressives for about 20 years,” he said.
He stated: “How can I have an open election and my name will be allocated zero? I participated, I voted, and my people were there. So I am challenging that result,” he said.
According to him, he obtained the party’s nomination and expression-of-interest forms for N50 million, underwent screening, and was cleared to contest.
“I bought the form. I have the receipt. I was invited for screening, and I was cleared. On the screening list, my number was 52, while Yayi’s number was 53,” he said.
Hunye also faulted the consensus arrangement that produced Yayi, alleging that the aspirants were not properly consulted before the decision was reached.
“Nobody called me. All the aspirants ought to have been invited to a meeting where the consensus would be explained. They should agree and put it in black and white,” he said.
He denied allegations that he was falsely parading himself as the party’s candidate, saying, “I have never said I am the candidate. I am challenging the result in court.”
Hunye said he was prepared to abide by the court’s decision, stressing that his objective was to ensure fairness within the party.
“I want justice. Let the court decide. Whatever the outcome, I will accept it,” he said.
He warned that unresolved grievances could deepen the crisis within the APC ahead of the 2027 election, urging party leaders to address the issues and prevent division.
