Ogogo’s family dismisses viral death rumour amid cancer battle
By Enitan Abdultawab
The family of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has debunked viral reports claiming the 66-year-old actor has died, describing the circulating social media posts as fake.
The rumour spread on Tuesday after a Facebook user falsely claimed that one of the actor’s daughters, Haleemah Taiwo, had announced his death following an alleged rejection by several hospitals.
The post quickly gained traction online, prompting an immediate response from Ogogo’s daughter, Lima Taiwo.
Reacting on Instagram, Lima dismissed the claim in strong terms.
“This is false!!!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!!!! This is false!!! THIS IS FAKE… PLEASE STOP SPREADING FAKE NEWS,” she said.
The clarification comes barely a day after Lima and her sister, Kira Taiwo, made emotional public appeals for medical assistance for their father, who is battling stage four cancer.
In a tearful video shared on Instagram, Lima revealed that the family only discovered the severity of Ogogo’s illness about three weeks ago, explaining that his physical appearance had initially masked the seriousness of his condition.
She stressed that the family was not seeking financial donations, but urgently needed access to hospitals and specialists capable of treating the veteran actor.
Kira also disclosed that doctors had informed the family that the hospital managing Ogogo’s condition could no longer administer chemotherapy due to the advanced stage of the disease.
She appealed to cancer specialists, hospitals and other medical professionals to come forward and assist, saying the family remained determined to secure treatment for their father.
The family has urged the public to disregard the false death reports and refrain from spreading unverified information while Ogogo continues his fight against cancer.
