Nigerian newspapers review: [2027] APC governors, Wike’s feud deepens

In today’s Nigerian newspapers review programme, Today in the News, Vanguard leads with the feud between the All Progressives Congress governors and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, deepening, with APC leadership in the South-East throwing its weight behind the Progressive Governors’ Forum, demanding full party support for all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.

Another headline features President Bola Tinubu commending the judgment of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) arbitration tribunal in Paris, which handed Nigeria a sweeping legal victory, dismissing Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Ltd’s claims and ordering the firm and its promoter, Mr. Leno Adesanya, to refund most of Abuja’s $11.82 million legal bill.

Vanguard also reports that the Chairman of the Alliance for Economic Research and Ethics, Mr. Dele Oye, said Nigeria’s economy remains under severe strain despite attracting $10.37 billion in capital inflows, warning that the composition of the inflows raises concerns about the country’s reliance on short-term foreign portfolio investment.

Moving to another newspaper, The Guardian leads with a report that governors and state assemblies have begun considering the Constitution (Sixth Alteration) Bill, 2026, for the establishment of state police.

The Punch reports that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has commenced an investigation into the deaths of some suspected illegal miners arrested during enforcement operations in Niger State.

Lastly, The Nation leads with former Speakers and Deputy Speakers of state Houses of Assembly endorsing the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
