NDC warns chairmen against support group fees

ABUJA — The National Leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has warned state chairmen and other party officials against demanding registration fees from support groups, declaring that the registration process is free.

The party said any official found violating the directive would face disciplinary action in accordance with the provisions of its constitution.

In a statement on Friday by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the party said it had received reports that some state chairmen were allegedly demanding payments from support groups seeking registration with the party.

The NDC said registration of support groups was handled exclusively by its Directorate of Support Groups at the national headquarters in Abuja and did not attract any fee.

According to the party, no state chapter, officer or official was authorised to register support groups or collect money for the process “under any guise.”

“All State Chapters of the party are hereby directed to be properly guided and to comply strictly with this directive.

“Any violation of this directive will attract appropriate disciplinary action in accordance with the constitution of the party,” the statement said.

The party urged all support groups seeking registration to direct their enquiries and applications to the Directorate of Support Groups at its national headquarters in Abuja.

The NDC also reaffirmed its commitment to working with support groups, specifically mentioning the Obidient and Kwankwasiya Movements.

It said the groups would continue to be provided with an enabling environment to support the party’s activities and electoral efforts at all levels.

The statement added: “The NDC cherishes the support and partnership of all support groups, including the Obidient and Kwankwasiya Movements, and will continue to create an enabling environment for them to work for the victory of the party at all levels.”
