Lalong mourns former Plateau Assembly Speaker, Peter Azi

Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Simon Lalong, has mourned the death of former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Azi.
Lalong, who is also a former governor of Plateau State, described Azi’s death on Thursday as a painful and devastating loss to his family, constituents, Plateau State and the political community.
In a condolence message, Lalong recalled the contributions of the deceased to the development of Plateau State, particularly his service as Speaker during the administration of former Governor Jonah Jang.
He described Azi as a trusted political ally and committed member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who remained dedicated to serving the people, particularly at the grassroots.
According to Lalong, Azi distinguished himself through his commitment to public service, humility and loyalty, adding that his contributions to the political development of the state and the strengthening of democratic institutions would not be forgotten.
Lalong also described Azi as a committed member of the Conference of Former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly of Nigeria, COFFSHA, which he leads.
He said the deceased actively identified with the objectives of the association and remained passionate about promoting good governance and strengthening the legislature.
Lalong said: “Peter Azi was not only a former Speaker and distinguished public servant; he was a brother, a dependable political ally and a strong member of our political family.
“His death has left a painful void that will be difficult to fill. His commitment to the people and his contributions to Plateau State, particularly at the grassroots, will continue to be remembered.”
The former governor, on behalf of his family, the people of Plateau South Senatorial District and COFFSHA, extended his condolences to the Azi family, friends, political associates and the people of Plateau State.
He prayed God to grant the family the strength and fortitude to bear the loss and grant the soul of the former Speaker eternal rest.
Lalong urged the family to take solace in the worthy legacy left by Azi and the lives he touched during his years of service to humanity.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
