Kalu orders, media team, supporters to focus on his record
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North Senatorial District, has directed his media team, supporters, political associates and affiliated groups to stop mentioning or responding to other candidates seeking the senatorial seat in the 2027 election.
Kalu, in a statement issued by his office, said his re-election campaign should focus strictly on his record of representation, legislative performance, infrastructural interventions and human capital development across the five local government areas in the district.
He directed members of his media team and supporters to refrain from personal attacks, political exchanges and responses to provocation involving other candidates.
According to him, the people of Abia North are capable of assessing all candidates based on verifiable records, performance and capacity to deliver.
The statement highlighted the senator’s interventions in education, infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment and other areas as part of his record in the district.
It said Kalu had facilitated the construction and renovation of more than 100 school blocks and classrooms, alongside the provision of desks and other educational facilities across communities in Abia North.
It also said more than 70 road projects had been attracted to the district, while educational and learning materials, including STEM textbooks, school bags, sandals and uniforms, had been distributed to pupils.
The statement added that more than 50 youths and other beneficiaries from the district had benefited from overseas scholarships, international training and capacity-building opportunities.
It further listed empowerment programmes through which thousands of constituents had received equipment, tools and other forms of economic support.
In healthcare, the statement said Kalu’s interventions included access to free healthcare services for vulnerable constituents, while communities affected by erosion, flooding and other environmental challenges had benefited from federal interventions attracted to the district.
On his legislative record, the senator’s office said he had, since his election to the Senate in 2019, sponsored and advanced bills covering education, security, taxation, agriculture, healthcare, transportation, environmental protection, energy, social welfare, justice and economic development.
Among the bills listed were the Coastal and Inland Shipping (Cabotage) Act Amendment Bill, National Tax Crimes Commission Bill, National Food Bank Establishment Bill, Compulsory Free Universal Basic Education Act Amendment Bill and National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency Amendment Bill.
Others include the Armed Forces Act Amendment Bill, Federal College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu Bill, Federal Polytechnic Abiriba Bill, Federal University of Medical Sciences and Biomedical Technology, Umunna, Bende Bill, Federal University of Technology, Ovim Bill, Federal College of Agriculture, Isiochi Bill, Nigeria Chinese Language Village Bill, Nigeria Women Trust Fund Bill and Social Welfare Service Bill.
The statement said Kalu had also sponsored motions on the rehabilitation of the Eastern Rail Line, rural water supply in Abia North, banking infrastructure in the district, decentralisation of Nigeria’s electricity grid, healthcare access for vulnerable Nigerians, renewable energy for health centres, compulsory use of body-worn cameras by law enforcement agencies, crude oil theft, illegal mining, maritime development, research and innovation.
Kalu therefore directed his supporters and media team to allow his achievements, ongoing projects, legislative record and plans for the future to speak for him.
“The campaign must remain focused on issues, development and service to the people,” the statement said.
It added that there should be no insults, personal attacks or responses to provocations, while directing the senator’s media office and supporters acting on his behalf not to mention other candidates in statements, campaign materials or commentaries.
Kalu expressed appreciation to residents of Arochukwu, Bende, Isuikwuato, Ohafia and Umunneochi for their support, saying the 2027 election should provide an opportunity for the people to evaluate his stewardship based on verifiable achievements and his record in the National Assembly.
