I chose acting over marriage-bound relationship, says Olamide Odunlade

By Ayo Onikoyi

Yoruba Nollywood actress Olamide Odunlade has opened up about the difficult choices she has had to make in pursuit of her acting career, revealing that she once chose her passion for acting over a relationship that could have led to marriage.

The actress disclosed that her former fiancé’s mother gave her an ultimatum to choose between her son and her acting career, a decision she said ultimately led to the end of the relationship.

Speaking in an interview with Potpourri, Odunlade said she had no hesitation in choosing acting, describing the profession as a lifelong passion she has nurtured since childhood.

“My ex-fiancé’s mum called me and asked me to choose between her son and my career, and I chose my career because I believe in myself and my craft. I chose acting because I have had passion for it right from childhood. I have always played lead roles in drama productions and I love acting a lot. It is my life,” she said.

The actress noted that while love remains important, trust is the foundation of any meaningful relationship. According to her, she would not remain in a relationship where trust has been broken.

“Trust is very important to me when dating someone. If my partner can’t trust me, I am ending the relationship because issues of infidelity can affect one’s health. The same applies to me. If I can’t trust you, I will walk away. Love is one thing, trust is another. Without trust, love is meaningless,” she stated.

Odunlade also shared her views on romance and financial stability, stressing that while love is essential, it cannot replace the role money plays in sustaining everyday life.

“Money pays bills, not love. Money solves problems, not love. Love is beautiful and important, and we all need it in our lives, but without money, life becomes difficult,” she said.

Speaking on the qualities she admires in men, the actress said she is attracted to men with a good sense of style, adding that neatness and smart dressing often catch her attention.

Over the years, Odunlade has featured in numerous Nollywood productions and has also made her mark as a producer. Among her productions are Mojere, Omo Mala, Kosedurowo, and The First Tornado.

Despite the personal sacrifices that have accompanied her career journey, the actress remains committed to her craft, maintaining that acting continues to be her first love.
