Gov Bala Mohammed hails Babangida’s ‘enduring legacy’ at 85

BAUCHI — Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has congratulated former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, on his 85th birthday, describing him as one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s political and military history.
In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of his family, the Bauchi State Government and the people of the state, Mohammed said Babangida’s decades of military and public service had left an enduring mark on the country.
The governor acknowledged the responsibilities Babangida shouldered while leading Nigeria, noting that his administration operated during a complex period characterised by significant political, economic and social challenges.
He said while different aspects of Nigeria’s history continued to attract divergent perspectives, Babangida’s contributions to national development, unity and stability remained significant.
“At 85, Your Excellency, you stand as an enduring figure in Nigeria’s national story.
“Your journey through military and public service reflects a life profoundly devoted to serving our nation during some of its most critical moments,” Mohammed said.
The governor also commended Babangida for his continued contributions to national discourse as an elder statesman, saying his counsel and experience remained valuable to successive generations of Nigerian leaders.
Mohammed highlighted the longstanding relationship between Babangida and the people of Bauchi State, expressing appreciation for what he described as the former leader’s fatherly guidance and commitment to national unity.
“On behalf of my family, the Government, and the good people of Bauchi State, I warmly felicitate with Your Excellency on this significant milestone.
“Bauchi State proudly joins your family, friends, and well-wishers across the globe in celebrating 85 years of an extraordinary life, service, and leadership,” he said.
The governor prayed for Babangida’s continued good health, renewed strength, peace of mind and many more fulfilling years.
He expressed optimism that the former military president’s experience would continue to contribute to efforts towards peace, unity and progress in Nigeria.
