Divine partnership guarantees success, shields believers from sorrow — Adeboye
By Olayinka Latona
LAGOS – The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has said that lasting success and fulfilment can only be achieved through what he described as a “divine partnership” with God.
Adeboye made the declaration during the church’s June Thanksgiving Service, which also featured special prayers for financial institutions and regulators, at the RCCG national headquarters in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.
Speaking on the theme, “Divine Partnership,” the cleric explained that the term refers to having God as one’s partner in life.
“If you are in partnership with God, there is no way you can fail — that one is for sure. But if you try to do it alone, there is no way you will not ultimately fail,” he said.
“No matter how strong or clever you think you are, if you are not in partnership with God, the end result is not always very pleasant.”
Drawing from 1 Samuel 2:6-9, Adeboye said that when God becomes a person’s partner, there is virtually no limit to what such an individual can achieve. He distinguished between worldly success and divine blessings, noting that while success exists at different levels, only God’s blessings bring prosperity without sorrow.
Using the biblical account of David, he said the young shepherd defeated Goliath not through personal strength or ability but because of his partnership with God.
“Believe me honestly, there is no giant like poverty. I know what I am talking about. I have been there,” he said.
“For the first 18 years of my life, I had no pair of shoes. I know what it is to be poor.”
According to him, poverty often limits freedom and opportunities, but partnership with God can transform lives and elevate individuals beyond their circumstances.
“If you partner with God and allow Him into your life, He can take you from the lowest level to the highest level. The Bible says God can take one from the dust and promote you until you dine with kings.
“My father was so poor that even poor people called him poor. But God intervened, and the fellow standing before you, by the special grace of God, has on more than one occasion dined with presidents. If God becomes your partner, He can move you from being destitute to having more than enough,” he said.
Adeboye further stated that divine partnership guarantees continuous growth and advancement, regardless of a person’s current status.
He described God as the Creator and owner of all things, adding that anyone who consciously partners with Him would never lack.
“When you consciously make Him your partner, He will make you great,” he said, citing David’s rise from shepherd boy to king and his eventual wealth and influence.
The cleric also noted that God understands people’s needs better than they do themselves and often provides blessings beyond their expectations.
“There are things you think God is not interested in that He will give you,” he said.
Speaking with journalists after the service, Pastor Oladele Balogun, Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration and Pastor in Charge of RCCG Region 1, explained that the church selected the financial sector as the focus of the June Thanksgiving Service because of its strategic role in the nation’s economy.
Balogun described bankers and financial professionals as critical drivers of economic growth and commended the sector for introducing initiatives aimed at sustaining economic activities and improving productivity.
He expressed confidence that continued prayers and divine guidance would help stakeholders make positive contributions to Nigeria’s economic development.
