By Haruna Aliyu, Birnin Kebbi

Following the recent bandit attacks on some communities in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi, Governor Nasir Idris has assured residents of the affected communities that his administration will establish a military base in the area as part of intensified measures to curb persistent insecurity.

The governor gave the assurance on Saturday when he paid a condolence visit to the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman, over the death of the Village Head of Lafagu and other victims of the recent attacks.

Idris described the attacks as barbaric and deeply disturbing, assuring the people that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, will flush out bandits ravaging the area.

He said his administration would not relent in its efforts to protect the lives and property of citizens, stressing that every necessary measure would be taken to restore peace and enable displaced residents to return safely to their communities.

“I am not going to relent in ensuring that my people are protected. My government is working hard with the security agencies to ensure that the internally displaced persons return safely to their villages,” the governor said.

Governor Idris also visited some Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, where he sympathised with victims of the attacks and reassured them of the government’s commitment to their safety, welfare and eventual return to their ancestral communities.

He expressed concern over the security situation and disclosed that his administration had concluded arrangements aimed at finding a lasting solution to insecurity in the affected areas and restoring the confidence of residents.

“I am not going to tolerate these barbaric acts. In shaa Allah, the government is doing everything possible to protect the lives of our people. I will continue to support you and ensure that everyone returns safely to their villages,” he added.

He urged the people to remain calm and patient, while cautioning them against taking the law into their own hands.

He called on residents to cooperate fully with security agencies and promptly provide credible information about suspicious persons or activities in their communities.

Responding, the District Head of Kaoje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman Adamu, thanked Governor Idris for the condolence visit and proactiveness towards timely response to issues related to the security situation.

He described the attacks as un-Islamic and inhuman, and thanked him and his entourage for taking the time to visit and commiserate with the affected community.
