The re-election bid of Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Nasir Idris, received a major boost recently following the declaration of support by a strong faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.

Hundreds of PDP stakeholders converged at the Birnin Kebbi residence of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd), weekend, to announce their alignment with the governor ahead of the 2027 general election.

Among those present were loyalists of the PDP 2015 governorship candidate, General Bello Sarkin Yaki; former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alhaji Buhari Bala.

Bamaiyi said despite the current crisis rocking the PDP at the national level, progressive politicians in the state could not afford to remain passive.

He noted that the visible transformation witnessed in Birnin Kebbi and Idris’s commitment to critical infrastructure projects informed their decision to support his continuity in office.

“For the 2027 elections, we are now fully committed to the victory of Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu,” Bamaiyi declared.

He, however, added that the group would remain within the PDP, citing the dynamic nature of democracy.

Also speaking, Alhaji Buhari Bala, said with their pedigree in Nigeria’s political evolution, they could not afford to “sidon-look” in the face of what he described as patriotic and selfless leadership being exhibited by the governor.

Bala stressed that the group’s decision was based on performance, unity, and the need to ensure sustained development in Kebbi rather than partisan considerations.

Governor Idris,  however, thanked the PDP stakeholders and their teeming followers for the confidence reposed in his administration and leadership style.
