Baba Suwe told me he’d die, I laughed it off – Daughter

Halimat Omidina, the last child of late veteran Yoruba actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has recounted the emotional final moments she shared with her father before his death.

Baba Suwe died on November 22, 2021, at the age of 63. He would have turned 68 on Saturday, August 22.

Halimat, a model and content creator, shared the memories on her X handle, @superstarrlimaa, on Saturday while commemorating her father’s posthumous birthday.

In an emotional tribute, Halimat said celebrating the day without her father brought back memories of the moments they once shared.

“Happy posthumous birthday, Daddy. Today feels so different, no crowd, no jollof rice, no you in your new shirt,” she wrote.

She expressed regret over not creating more memories with her father and said she wished she had held him tighter when he spoke about his impending death.

“I wish I made more memories with you and hugged you tighter when you told me you’d die. May Allah have mercy on you and grant you Jannatul Firdaus,” she added.

In another post, Halimat revealed that Baba Suwe had told her he would die two days before his death, but she dismissed the statement because she believed he was joking.

“This could’ve been my mood today. Someone asked if Daddy ever told me he was going to die. Yes, he did. Two days before, he told me, but I laughed it off. I thought he was joking,” she wrote.

She recalled that she received a call the following day asking her to return home because her father’s condition had worsened.

According to Halimat, Baba Suwe could no longer speak by the time she arrived, and he died about an hour later.

“The next day, I got a call to come home. He couldn’t talk anymore, and an hour later, he passed,” she added.

Baba Suwe featured in numerous Yoruba films, including Iru Esin, Baba Londoner, Oju Oloju and Baba Jaiye Jaiye.

Halimat’s mother, the actress Omoladun Omidina, alias Moladun, died in 2009.
