Ballistics and Boards: Investigators Narrow Focus in Probe of Oluwaseyi Adeoye’s Demolition Death

ABEOKUTA — The investigation into the killing of Oluwaseyi Adeoye, the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning worker shot during a demolition exercise, has moved into a critical forensic phase. As of Friday, February 27, 2026, the 35 Artillery Brigade and the Ogun State Police Command are reportedly analyzing ballistic data to resolve the conflicting accounts of who fired the fatal shot.

Adeoye died on Monday at the Ganic Company site in Orile-Imo after a confrontation between state enforcement officers and security personnel escalated into gunfire.

“We are watching the Board of Inquiry closely,” a community representative stated. “A worker went out to earn a daily wage and never came home. The bullet must have a source, and that source must face the law.” The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to providing a comprehensive update once the forensic reports are finalised, promising that no perpetrator will be shielded from prosecution.

The Custody Update: Suspects Under Guard

Following the confirmation of arrests by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olatunji Odunlami, new reports indicate that the suspects remain in high-security custody.

Military Detention: The soldiers allegedly present at the scene are currently being held at the 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, pending the conclusion of the Board of Inquiry (BOI).

Police Cooperation: The police officers who accompanied the demolition team have also submitted their service weapons for forensic examination to clear any doubt regarding their involvement.

Board of Inquiry (BOI) Commences Sittings

The military’s Board of Inquiry has officially begun taking testimonies from witnesses. Major Idereghi Akari confirmed that the board is questioning both military personnel and civilian workers who were present during the “Hamzat-led” enforcement mission. The BOI’s primary focus is to determine why live ammunition was discharged in a civilian enforcement setting and whether the rules of engagement were violated.

Autopsy and Ballistic Matching

The family’s demand for a post-mortem is currently being executed at the State General Hospital, Ijaye. Forensic experts are tasked with recovering the projectile from the victim’s body. Once recovered, the bullet will undergo ballistic matching against the rifles seized from the suspects. This evidence will serve as the “smoking gun” to determine if the lethal round originated from a military-issued firearm or a police weapon—a point of heated contention between the two agencies earlier this week.

A Community on Edge

In Orile-Imo and the wider Alamala area, residents continue to call for justice. The Concrete Dealers Association, led by Kolawole Obadeyi, has urged the state government to ensure the investigation is not “diluted” by inter-agency politics.

“We are watching the Board of Inquiry closely,” a community representative stated. “A worker went out to earn a daily wage and never came home. The bullet must have a source, and that source must face the law.”

The Ogun State Government has reiterated its commitment to providing a comprehensive update once the forensic reports are finalized, promising that no perpetrator will be shielded from prosecution.
