Abiodun hails IGP Disu, Ogun-Lagos Police over anti-kidnapping operation

By James Ogunnaike

ABEOKUTA — Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. Olatunji Disu, for initiating the joint Ogun-Lagos security operation, Operation Kosaye, describing it as a bold, proactive and intelligence-driven initiative that has significantly improved security across the two neighbouring states.

The governor said the operation had recorded remarkable successes through coordinated security operations, including the combing of forests and criminal hideouts along the Ogun-Lagos corridor, the neutralisation of armed bandits, the arrest of criminal suspects and the rescue of kidnapped victims.

Abiodun, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, said the achievements of Operation Kosaye had restored public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force and reinforced the determination of security agencies to protect lives and property.

“The sustained offensive against criminal elements has effectively made Ogun and Lagos states increasingly hostile to kidnappers, bandits and other violent criminals who had attempted to exploit our shared border communities as safe havens,” the governor said.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies with logistics, operational resources and technology to further strengthen policing across the state.

According to him, sustained investment in security infrastructure, surveillance technology and operational mobility has continued to complement the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in maintaining peace, law and order.

Abiodun also praised the Commissioners of Police in Ogun and Lagos states, Bode Ojajuni and Tijani Fatai, as well as officers and personnel participating in Operation Kosaye, for their professionalism, courage and dedication to duty.

“The commitment and professionalism of the officers and men involved in Operation Kosaye have been instrumental to the successes already recorded. Their sacrifices continue to reassure our people that security agencies remain committed to safeguarding lives and property,” he said.

The governor noted that the operation had demonstrated the importance of collaboration, intelligence sharing and coordinated inter-state action in tackling emerging security threats.

“Criminal elements can only be effectively defeated when security agencies work seamlessly across jurisdictional boundaries. Operation Kosaye has shown that collaboration remains one of the most potent weapons against insecurity,” he added.

Abiodun urged other states to emulate the Ogun-Lagos security model by establishing similar collaborative security frameworks capable of denying criminals the opportunity to exploit state boundaries.

He reiterated that his administration would continue to prioritise security through sustained investment in logistics, technology and other operational resources.

“The protection of lives and property remains a cardinal objective of this administration, and we will continue to provide every necessary support to our security agencies to ensure Ogun State remains safe for residents and investors,” the governor stated.
