5 countries that give Nigerians five-year multiple-entry visas
For Nigerians and other countries’ citizens who travel frequently for business, tourism, family visits or other commitments, a five-year multiple-entry visa can make international travel considerably easier.
Rather than applying for a new visa before every trip, holders of these long-term visas can make repeated visits during the visa’s validity period, subject to the conditions attached to each visa.
However, a five-year visa is not automatically guaranteed simply because an applicant is Nigerian. Approval depends on the destination country, the applicant’s travel history, finances, purpose of travel and other requirements.
Here are five destinations where eligible Nigerian travellers can obtain five-year multiple-entry visas.
1. United Kingdom
The United Kingdom offers long-term Standard Visitor Visas that can be valid for two, five or 10 years.
The five-year visa allows multiple visits to the UK during its validity, with visitors generally permitted to stay for up to six months on each visit.
Applicants must demonstrate that they are genuine visitors and meet the UK’s financial and immigration requirements.
The long-term option can be particularly useful for Nigerians who regularly visit the UK for tourism, family visits, business-related activities or other permitted purposes.
2. Schengen Area
Nigerians with a strong travel record may be eligible for a five-year multiple-entry Schengen visa.
Under the EU Visa Code, multiple-entry Schengen visas can have a validity of up to five years. The rules provide for progressively longer visas for travellers who have previously obtained and lawfully used shorter-validity multiple-entry visas.
A five-year Schengen visa does not mean a traveller can live in Europe for five years. It is a short-stay visa, and holders are generally limited to 90 days in any 180-day period.
The visa can be used to travel to countries within the Schengen Area, subject to the conditions of the visa and border-entry requirements.
3. India
India is another destination listed among countries offering eligible Nigerian travellers long-term multiple-entry visas for tourism and business purposes.
A five-year visa can be particularly useful for Nigerians who have regular business interests, family connections or other legitimate reasons to travel to India.
As with other long-term visas, applicants should not assume that five years is guaranteed. Immigration authorities assess applications based on factors including the applicant’s purpose of travel, financial circumstances and previous travel history.
4. South Africa
South Africa offers qualifying Nigerian businesspeople access to five-year multiple-entry visas.
The South African government has specifically highlighted a simplified visa process for Nigerian businesspeople, stating that qualifying applicants can be granted a five-year multiple-entry visa.
This makes the option particularly relevant to Nigerians who regularly travel to South Africa for business, investment, meetings and other professional activities.
Applicants still need to meet the applicable requirements and demonstrate a legitimate reason for frequent travel.
5. United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates offers a five-year multiple-entry tourist visa that is available to applicants of all nationalities, subject to approval.
The UAE’s immigration authority says the visa allows multiple entries over five years, with stays of up to 90 days per visit. The stay can be extended, but the total period spent in the UAE must not exceed 180 days in a year.
