2027 Polls: Nigerians will renew Tinubu’s mandate, Matawalle insists
By Musa Ubandawaki, Sokoto
SOKOTO — The Minister of State for Defence, Mohammed Bello Matawalle, has expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will secure re-election in the 2027 general election, stating that Nigerians will assess the administration based on its policies and performance.
Matawalle made the remarks through his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Mai Gandi, during a Contact and Sensitisation Retreat organised by the North-West Tinubu/Matawalle Peace and Unity Initiatives in Sokoto.
The retreat brought together political and community-based groups involved in mobilisation and civic engagement activities across the North-West region.
According to the minister, the Tinubu administration has continued to implement policies and programmes aimed at addressing challenges in key sectors, including security, infrastructure, economic reform and social development.
He said the administration inherited significant governance and security challenges and has pursued a range of interventions designed to improve national stability and development.
Matawalle highlighted federal support for the armed forces and other security agencies, noting that efforts have been intensified to tackle terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other security concerns, particularly in parts of Northern Nigeria.
He also pointed to economic and human capital development initiatives aimed at promoting growth, expanding opportunities and reducing poverty.
The minister urged Nigerians to remain informed about government policies and programmes and encouraged citizens, especially young people, to engage constructively in national development.
He further called on political leaders and stakeholders to support initiatives that promote economic empowerment, grassroots development and national cohesion.
Describing President Tinubu as committed to national development, Matawalle said the administration remains focused on policies intended to foster peace, unity and economic progress.
Earlier, the Lead Convener of the initiative, Yusuf Abubakar, said the retreat was organised to strengthen support networks and create awareness about the administration’s programmes and development agenda.
He disclosed that 58 leaders of community groups, associations and youth ambassadors from Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna states participated in the event.
Abubakar also commended Matawalle for supporting mobilisation efforts and stakeholder engagement activities across the region.
