Why I Remain Active After Years in Public Service, By Senator Obanikoro

Former Minister of State for Defence and politician, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, on Monday, said his unwavering commitment to public service and the development of Lagos State remains the driving force behind his continued active participation in politics and governance.
Obanikoro, who currently serves as the Director-General of the Lagos State Governorship Campaign Council, said he has been entrusted with the responsibility of coordinating the campaign structure to ensure the electoral victories of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Deputy Governor Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, and all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general election.
According to the former minister, public service is not a temporary engagement but a lifelong responsibility that requires experienced hands to continue contributing to nation-building even after leaving public office.
“Public service, for me, has never been a phase; it is a responsibility,” Obanikoro said.
He noted that experience is one of the greatest assets in governance, stressing that it should be continually deployed to advance the public good rather than set aside after years of service.
“Experience is not something you retire from; it is something you continue to deploy where it can make meaningful impact,” he stated.
The former Lagos senator explained that governance is a continuous process that thrives on institutional memory, mentorship and the willingness of experienced leaders to support the next generation of public servants.
“Over the years, I have learned that governance is a continuous work in progress, and the real value of experience lies in helping to steady the process, guide the younger generation, and contribute to outcomes that outlive individuals.”
He maintained that his continued involvement in public affairs is motivated by a desire to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of Lagos State, while supporting policies and initiatives that promote good governance and sustainable progress.
“This is why I remain active and committed to the progress of Lagos State,” Obanikoro concluded.
