From Tax Reforms to the Treasury: Tinubu Taps Taiwo Oyedele as New Minister of State for Finance
ABUJA — In a strategic move to consolidate his administration’s economic policies, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of State for Finance.
The presidency announced the major cabinet shake-up on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, confirming that Oyedele will replace Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite. Following this development, the President formally forwarded Oyedele’s name to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, for expedited confirmation.
As the Senate prepares to screen the nominee, the Nigerian business community remains highly optimistic that Oyedele’s transition from an advisory tax role to an executive treasury position will permanently stabilize the nation’s fiscal trajectory.
The “Tax Master” Steps Up
Until this latest appointment, the 50-year-old Oyedele served as the Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms.
In that capacity, he successfully spearheaded the complete overhaul of Nigeria’s tax system, masterminding the four pivotal tax legislations—including the Nigeria Tax Act and the Nigeria Revenue Service Act—that officially took effect on January 1, 2026.
If confirmed by the Senate, Oyedele will serve as the junior minister working directly alongside the substantive Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun. Financial analysts expect Oyedele to leverage his extensive fiscal background to: Ensure the smooth nationwide rollout of the new tax framework. Drive aggressive revenue collection efficiency. Coordinate seamlessly with the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to eliminate multiple taxation.
A Third Portfolio for Doris Uzoka-Anite
The nomination of Oyedele triggers a significant redeployment for Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, marking her third portfolio under the Tinubu administration.
The President has officially moved her to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, where she will serve as the Minister of State. Uzoka-Anite initially joined the cabinet in August 2023 as the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment before the President redeployed her to the Finance Ministry in late 2024.
Who is Taiwo Oyedele?
For Nigerians unfamiliar with the new ministerial nominee beyond his recent tax reform advocacy, Oyedele brings decades of high-level corporate and academic experience to the federal cabinet.
Corporate Veteran: He spent 22 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), joining in 2001 and rising to the prestigious rank of Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader.
Academic Background: A native of Ikaram in Akoko, Ondo State, Oyedele holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
Global Training: He completed elite executive education programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Harvard Kennedy School, and the Gordon Institute of Business Science.
Thought Leader: Beyond his core accounting practice, he serves as a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and functions as a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School (LBS).
As the Senate prepares to screen the nominee, the Nigerian business community remains highly optimistic that Oyedele’s transition from an advisory tax role to an executive treasury position will permanently stabilize the nation’s fiscal trajectory.
